Mrs. Garlow's Classroom Blog

Special Visit

We are excited to welcome math guru, Cathy Fosnot to our classroom.  Prior to the winter break, Cathy Fosnot and the math consultants in our school board reached out to me to work with her directly on one of her new units.  She has heard about the incredible learning that has been taking place in our class and was eager to fly into Canada to come see for herself!  Cathy will be coming to our school to meet the young mathematicians in our class on Monday, February 11th and filming will take place on Tuesday, February 12th.  This is an exciting opportunity!

Currently in math, students have been busy developing their understanding of fractions within the context of linear measurement.  Through problems students investigate, they are coming to learn how units can be decomposed further into equal parts - fractional pieces of the original unit.  Students are also learning the relationship of multiplication and division and fractions.

To help your child at home, you can have them explore the relationship between multiplication and division through various games.  Here are a few links to some online multiplication games and videos.
