Primary Winter Electives

Rick Hansen Public School will once again offer a Winter Electives program for our grades 1 to 3 students. Students will be given the opportunity to enjoy two, fun-filled days of skating.  The first outing has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 9th  at the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex and the second outing has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 17th at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex.  The total fee for the program is $10.00.

In order to support the participation of all students, we will be holding a skate and helmet sale on Thursday, December 7th 3:45-6:00pm. We thought this would be a great way to give everyone the opportunity to buy or sell skates and helmets at reasonable prices. Please have a look through your home for old skates and helmets (CSA approved) that you are no longer using and consider sending them in for this event.

If you have any skates or CSA approved helmets to sell, please send them in with your child by Tuesday, December 5th with the following information attached to the laces or taped firmly to the skates:  

• Name of Student
• Classroom Teacher's Name
• Size
• Asking Price

If your skates/helmets are sold, the money will be given to your child via their classroom teacher the next day. If the skates/helmets are not sold, they will be returned to your child the next day. If you need skates/helmets, please be sure to come!

We will need several parent volunteers to help with supervision at Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex and the Aurora Family Leisure Complex. If you are able to assist, please email Mrs. Garlow at grace.garlow@yrdsb.ca. Volunteers will be working with groups of students. As such, volunteers must have a Vulnerable Sector Check completed through the York Region Police well in advance of the trip. A Vulnerable Sector Check form can be picked up from our school's office.
